Ok so, instead of creating a song in A major or A minor I am going to be creating a song in an A aeolian mode? and in that case it would like doing a song in the scale of C major and all the chord progressions and melodies are going to be centered on the A Aeolian mode. This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. Let me know if that makes it a little more clear. Make sense? Another example:Į Aeolian shares the same notes with G Majorĭ Aeolian shares the same notes with F Major So, for example, A Aeolian uses the same notes from the C Major Scale, but it won't be in C major, it would be in A Aeolian depending if you make it sound "aeolian," so you should base your melody and chords around that mode.Īnother mode that shares the same notes as C major is D Dorian. I guess what I was doing was using modes that derive from that key. Am I supposed to chose the key of the song for example C major and based on that key I use the mode? If that is correct then if I am going to work on the key of C major and use aeolian mode then the chord progression is going to be build upon the aeolian scale right?Well first off, if you want to make your song utilize a mode, then it won't be in C major. I'll post you the scales in the context and derivity of C major:īuild TRIADIC chords based on the mode, for example if you want to have a I - IV - V chord harmony from AEOLIAN it would be this:Īll the notes from the chords derive from the mode.īut now further into the style, a good "medieval" sounding chord progression from aeolian could be something like this Also, Mixolydian mode sounds very medieval, same with the harmonic minor scale. They use the scale appropriately as long as chord progressions rooted very closely to that mode. It's also how they use harmony (chord progressions) as well as the scale itself. Does anyone know any guitar scales that give that medieval-type sound?
